Cllr Jo Slimin

I was born and brought up on a farm in Cheshire before moving to the North East when
I gained a BSc in Zoology and Physiology. I moved to Tadley in December 1969 and
spent time bringing up my two sons. I was first elected as a Councillor in 1983 and
have been fortunate to be re-
I became a Councillor as I was aware of the lack of facilities in Tadley and wanted
to help improve them. Then I had two young sons interested in sport and I am still
trying to improve them as I now have a young grand-
I have served on all the Council's Committees over the years and have been both Chairman
and Vice Chairman on a number of occasions. For five years of this time I also served
on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council where I was both group leader for the Liberal

Although the job of Town Councillor is unpaid, which most residents are not aware of, and can be hard work at times, it is satisfying to get things done for the people of Tadley. Also it is good to be able to work with others in the town doing great work as volunteers with other organisations. Some of the projects I have been heavily involved with getting established include Spring Clean Week, our Christmas tree event, Tadley Citizens Advice Bureau, Barlows Park football facility and the Swimming Pool. I am still enthusiastic about the opportunity to help make a difference in Tadley and recognise there is still lots to do.
