Cllr. Claire Ballard

I have lived in Tadley for ten years with my fiancé. Prior to this I lived in Basingstoke.

I work as an Executive Officer at The University of Reading in a Department responsible for International student recruitment.  Before joining the University I worked for 13 years at AWE mainly within Personnel.

I decided to become a Councillor because I wanted to put something back into the community in which I live. I enjoy working with people and helping them solve problems and hope that I can be an approachable Councillor who residents feel they can come to with their problems.  I am also concerned about the lack of facilities Tadley has for its growing population and guess that was another reason why I wanted to join the Council.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching Reading Football Club and following Formula One Motor Racing.  I am also Permit Secretary for the Southern Centre Auto Cycle Union, a body which promotes off road motorcycling.

Cllr Valerie Frost

I have lived in Tadley for 30 years.  I was a Tadley Town Councillor from 1995 until 1999.  I am a Councillor because I believe that Local Councils should be non political and I have the interests of the local community at heart.

I was an active member of the seeAbility partnership in Tadley.  I am a volunteer receptionist at St Michael's Hospice in Basingstoke and I help to run the Ambrose Allen Centre.  My hobbies are gardening, theatre and sport.

Cllr Sue Cordery

My husband and I moved to the conservation area of Tadley a year ago. We moved from Twyford, Berkshire where we had lived and bought up our children for over 20 years.

I have always had a keen interest in what is happening within the area we have lived and I have always had concerns for local issues. I feel that as I am now semi-retired, it will give me the opportunity to get involved and put some of my free time and talents towards serving the local community. This I feel will enable me to integrate and have a better understanding of issues affecting Tadley.

I worked as a Practice Manager within the NHS for a number of years, and I enjoy working with a wide variety of people.

I am a volunteer for St Michael's Hospice and my hobbies include Running - look out for me pounding Tadley streets, Swimming and Refurbishing our Cottage.

Cllr Avril Burdett

I have lived in Tadley since 1984 and have been a Councillor since 1999. I am the AWE's Public Affairs Manager and meet many Councillors in my work. I was impressed with the work they do at a grass roots level, how they strive to improve our community and represent the interests of the people of Tadley, so when I was asked to join them, I couldn't say no.  I do not belong to any political party and I think I can best serve Tadley this way.

I enjoy all aspects of the work, especially working with such a diverse group of people and  because I want Tadley to develop in the best way for its residents.

I am married with two children. who have been educated locally, and both have gained good degrees and I would like Tadley to be a place where all children can develop their full potential.

Cllr David Leeks

I have lived in Tadley all my life, and have been a Tadley Town Councillor for 14 years and a Borough Councillor for 10 years.

I became a Councillor because I felt I wanted to put something back into the community and to make it a better place for my wife and family to live in.  I am also keen to assist other people by helping them to contact the most appropriate people to deal with their needs.

I serve on the following committees on the Town Council: Highways and Planning, Recreation and Leisure, Finance and General Purposes, Christmas Tree Working Party, Chairman of the Burial Committee and trustee of the Turbary Allotment Charity.  At Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council I am Vice Chairman of the Development Control Committee [planning] and also serve on Twining, Southern Tourist Board and Hurst School Management Committees.

I am a founder member of the AWE Local Liaison Committee, this enables me to meet the senior management of AWE four times a year and to talk about how AWE affects the local community, it also allows us to ask questions that you may want answers to.

I serve on the following bodies Tadley CAB, Tadley and District Community Association [past chairman], Vice Chairman and Trustee of Shopmobility Basingstoke and Governor of the Hurst Community College.

In the past I have held the position as Chairman of Tadley Town Council for five years in two stints and National Chairman of The British Polio Fellowship for four years.

Cllr Nigel Quelch

I have lived in Tadley since 1964 and up until 2007 worked in Basingstoke. In 2007 I set up my own Graphic Design Company in Tadley. I became a councillor because I care about the community in which my family and I live. I have two young children and want to give them the opportunity to grow up in a safe and caring environment.

I was a member of The Village Design Statement Team which taught me a great deal about working with a team of volunteers keen to help their community. I am a governor at a local primary school and help with the local scout group. I was chairman of Tadley Cricket Club and still play as often as I can.

I am particularly interested in providing usable facilities for the younger generations in Tadley.

I enjoy playing guitar, cricket, music and reading.

Cllr Ian Hankinson

I am transport manager for a large stationery company based in Basingstoke.  I am also a professionally qualified Youth Worker and am keen on seeing the development of projects and facilities for young people in the area.

I first became a Councillor in 1998 and feel this is the best way I can offer something back to the Community in which I live.

Cllr Terry Faulkner

I have lived in Tadley for over 20 years and have been a Councillor for the last 10 years.  I became a Councillor because I care about the community I live in and I felt it would supplement my work as a Borough Councillor.  I also wanted to look after the interests of Tadley in general.

My main interests as a Councillor are: Highways and Planning (of which I am Chairman), Recreation and Leisure, Finance and General Purposes and Personnel.  My hobbies include gardening, reading, wine and spending time with my grandchildren.
My other interests include belonging to the Community Health Council and Shadow Health Forum.

Cllr Mike Broad

Councillor for the Tadley North Ward.
I have lived in the area since 1955. I am now retired and have been a Councillor for 11 years. I became a councillor because I wanted to rectify the in balance Tadley has, in that although it is 10% of the population of Basingstoke and Dean Borough it has less than 10% of the facilities and the residents in Tadley pay council tax plus a parish tax. I also think that politics should be kept out of local government.

My interests as a Councillor are: Recreation and Leisure and Finance and General Purposes.  I serve as a Trustee of Tadley Swimming Pool and as a Governor at Burnham Copse Junior School.

My hobbies are teaching swimming, lifesaving, scouting and skiing.

Cllr Tony Flahive

I have lived in Tadley since 1990 and I care about  what is happening in the local community and beyond. My interests are varied (brass bands, classical music, computers and reading), but I also think it is important to consider wider issues and support the local community in whatever way I can, which is why I became a councillor.

I have recently changed career direction and am now a self employed Microsoft Office applications trainer. I am married and take an active role in several local committees.

Cllr Christine Keeling

I moved to Tadley with my husband in 1998.  We were keen to live somewhere with a rural feel but with relatively easy access to London and Heathrow.

I started my career within the accountancy field working in private practice, industry and retail. In 1998 I moved out of the accountancy field to run the family business.  The business, which is based in Tadley, designs business training materials.  Our special area of expertise is the design and use of games and simulations.

I am involved with Young Enterprise locally and was a business advisor for The Hurst School for two years.  I now participate in the local Board.  I am also a member of the Advisory Committee for the Business Unit at Basingstoke College of Technology.

When I am not working in the business I spend my time on house renovation and garden projects.  I am also a season ticket holder with the Northampton Saints Rugby Club.

Cllr Adrian Noad

I have lived in Tadley since 1965 and own an estate agency in the town. I have been a councillor since 1999 and became a Councillor because I have lived in Tadley nearly all my life and care about the community. I have also been actively involved with the Tadley & District Community Association since 1996 and have been its Chairman since 2003. My main interest as a Councillor is Recreation and Leisure.

My hobbies are sport, in particular motor racing and ice hockey. I am married with 2 children.

Cllr Sue Mullan

I used to be a nurse and midwife in the Royal Berks in Reading.  I then worked  as a PA for my husband's accountancy firm in London.  I have lived in the area for all of my life and have been a Councillor for 19 years.  I became a Councillor because I didn't agree with some of the decisions being made by the Town Council at that time. My interests as a Councillor are Highways and Planning and the future of Tadley.  My hobbies are theatre, cinema, reading and walking. I am Chairman of the Turbary Allotment Charity, which owns and manages the Common for the benefit of the community.

I feel that often Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council make decisions that go against recommendations made by Tadley Town Council.  I am also a Trustee of the Ambrose Allen Charity, I feel it is important that there are sufficient facilities provided for our aging population.

Cllr Jo Slimin

I moved to Tadley in 1969 and was first elected as a Councillor in 1983.  I became a Councillor as I was aware of the lack of facilities in Tadley and wanted to help improve them.  Then I had two young sons interested in sport and now I am still trying as I have a young grand-daughter who lives in the town.  I work full time for the Environment Agency so have a particular interest in environmental issues.

As well as Leisure I have served on all the Council's Committees and have been both Chairman and Vice Chairman.  I have also served on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for five years.

Although the job of Councillor is unpaid and hard work at times, it is satisfying to get things done for the people of Tadley.

Cllr John Moss

I have lived in Tadley for 40yrs.  I first joined the Council in the 1980s but gave up due to work commitments.  Since retiring I have recently re-joined the council.  My main reason for being a Councillor is to endeavour to put pressure on appropriate organisations to provide more leisure facilities for Tadley, which are currently sadly lacking. I am married and my wife has worked in Tadley as a hairdresser and also as a dinner lady.  We have three grown-up daughters, all attended local schools, and we also have one granddaughter. My main interests on the Council are Recreation and Leisure and Planning, thus I am on both committees. I am also a trustee of the Allotments for the Labouring Poor.
